BtL’s Green Minutes

Chameleons’ aren’t the only things that can change colour to suit the environment your business can to! As of January 1st 2009, all minutes carried across BtL’s Green Minutes network are carbon neutral. This is particularly beneficial for businesses that are looking to reduce their carbon footprint while still saving money.

This is more than just a gimmick. BtL’s Green Minutes network has dramatically reduced power consumption within the running of the network as it has moved to a softswitch environment. The Green Minutes network has moved to the next stage and has reduced our carbon footprint by carbon offsetting the power that we do use to carry minutes across our network.

Even in the current climate, the green agenda is important, and providing green minutes as part of a broader solution is BtL’s goal. Reducing organisations carbon footprint is becoming a key objective.

The process for developing the Green Minutes proposition involved using independent consultants to measure Carbon footprint, based upon the electricity power consumed transporting minutes around the network. Carbon footprint is offset onto appropriate projects that would not have happened without carbon offset investment.

Green Minutes is investing in two projects – an Indian Wind Power Project in India and the Sichuan Province Hydro Power Project in China. The Wind Power Project is similar to Jamnagar Wind Power Project which sees the construction of a number of new wind turbines and helps to reduce India’s reliance on fossil fuels for electricity generation by providing renewable energy.

This project will provide reliable, renewable power to the electricity grid and will directly benefit nearby villages through the provision of local employment.

The Sichuan Province Hydro Power Project bundles four small run-of-river hydro power stations and displaces electricity that would otherwise have been generated by fossil-fuel power stations. The project brings benefits besides that of climate change mitigation, including job creation and helping to address the shortfall of electricity available on the regional grid, with benefits to local households and economic development of businesses as well as providing energy security to the general community.
