0870 Numbers (National Telephone Numbers)

Ofcom has recently set out new 0870 rules (effective from 1st August 2009) to provide clarity about the price of calls to 0870 numbers. The new rules will encourage telecom providers to stop charging higher prices for calls to 0870 numbers from fixed lines and mobiles than calls to geographic rate numbers (01, 02 or 03 numbers) and to include 0870 calls in call packages on the same basis as normal geographic calls.


This means that your customers can now call 0870 numbers from BT land lines for free, depending on the call plan, regardless of their location within the UK. Ofcom latest rules will ensure that the 0870 numbers continue to reflect a professional, national image as they are used for a variety of different activities e.g. providing technical support or helplines.


* Note: As a result of the new Ofcom regulations you as the 0870 number owner will have to pay for calls you receive through 0870 number at 2p/min from August 2009. Clients who wish to avoid potential call charges should purchase or migrate to an 0844 number or 0871 number instead of 0870. Our existing 0870 clients can make their selection online after logging in.
